Biography

Bright Okpocha, professionally known as Basketmouth, is a Nigerian comedian, actor, filmmaker, and musician celebrated for his sharp wit, observational humour, and boundary-pushing performances. Born on 14 September 1978 in Lagos, Nigeria, he has been at the forefront of African comedy for over two decades, selling out shows across the continent and beyond.

A graduate of the University of Benin, where he studied Sociology and Anthropology, Basketmouth first gained recognition in the early 2000s with his stand-up performances, rising to fame through Night of a Thousand Laughs and other major comedy platforms. His career has since evolved beyond stand-up, making significant strides in television, film, and music.

In addition to his success in comedy, Basketmouth has built an impressive portfolio in film and television. He created and starred in the hit web series My Flatmates and Papa Benji, as well as producing the award-winning Showmax series Ghana Jollof. His latest project, A Ghetto Love Story (2024), marks his debut as a feature film producer and director, further showcasing his storytelling prowess.

Basketmouth has seamlessly blended comedy with music, producing critically acclaimed albums featuring top Nigerian artists. His music projects include: Yabasi (2020) – A soundtrack album for Papa Benji, Horoscopes (2022) – A follow-up album with a star-studded lineup, exploring themes of love, life, and relationships, Uburu (2023) – A joint album with producer Duktor Sett, further expanding his musical portfolio and A Ghetto Love Story (2024) – The official soundtrack for his movie, featuring a mix of Afrobeats and contemporary sounds.
