The vibrant heart of African culture and music was brought to life in Hull on June 7, 2024, as The Gidi Vibes launched its inaugural event, the Lasgidi Vibes Afrobeat Showcase. Held at The Social on Humber Street and followed by an electrifying after party at ATIK night club, the event was a testament to the rich and dynamic essence of African creativity.
The evening began with an air of anticipation as guests filled the unique venue, The Social, an ex-warehouse space that has become a hub for innovative events. The stage was set, and the atmosphere was electric as MC Dutch, host of the event, introduced Alen Allaw (a Lebanese DJ who lives in Hull) who opened the show, setting the tone for an unforgettable night. His performance was a perfect blend of energy and charisma, captivating the audience from the very first note.
Following Alen Allaw, Yxgmind (a Zimbabwean artist who lives in Hull) and Bryno Wristy (a Nigerian artist who lives in Hull) took the stage, each delivering performances that showcased their unique talents and the diverse sounds of the African music scene. Yxgmind’s rhythmic beats and Bryno Wristy’s soulful melodies resonated deeply with the audience, creating a powerful connection that set the stage for the evening’s headliners.
The tempo shifted as TMXO stepped up with his eclectic afrohouse performance, infusing the room with pulsating beats and infectious rhythms. His set was a masterful display of musical prowess, blending traditional African sounds with contemporary house music in a way that had everyone on their feet, dancing to the beat.
As the night progressed, the crowd’s excitement reached a fever pitch when SESS THEPRBLM took over the deck. Known for his innovative approach and genre-blending style, SESS delivered a performance that was both electrifying and immersive, drawing the audience into his world of sound and rhythm.
The most anticipated act of the night, Vector Tha Viper, finally graced the stage, delivering a 30-minute intimate performance that left the audience in awe. With his iconic songs and magnetic stage presence, Vector proved why he is one of the most respected artists in the African music scene. His performance was a highlight of the evening, creating moments that will be remembered by all who attended.
As the clock struck 11 pm, the celebration moved to ATIK night club, where the after party continued the high-energy vibe of the evening. Alen Allaw once again took the stage to open the after party, keeping the momentum going with his infectious energy and engaging performance. The night reached its climax when DJ NasB (a Nigerian DJ who lives in Hull) took over, delivering a set that shut down the experience with a bang. His mix of Afrobeat, hip-hop, and house tracks kept the dance floor packed until the early hours, ensuring that the night ended on a high note.
